Château de la Taillée
European Heritage Days 2024
As part of the European Heritage Days, on September 21 and 22, 2024, an exhibition of works will be held at the Château de la Taillée in Échiré (France – 79).
The works are inspired by plants, trees and patterns found on-site.

SILHOUETTES
ROSA ODORATA
Watercolor and Rotring marker on 300g watercolor paper.
In the castle courtyard several rose bushes are planted next to the walls of the buildings. Each rose bush has its own distinct expression and shape. The black color emphasizes the silhouette of each plant and the red circles represent the flowers geometrically.
The works recreate the shapes of the rose bushes while evoking new patterns both real and imaginary.

VERTICALS
IRIS PSEUDACORUS
Watercolor and Rotring marker on 300g watercolor paper.
Withered plants and flowers have their own beauty. When the photographs used as the basis for these works were taken, there were no more flowers.
However the “headless” stems still stood tall with fascinating simplicity and graphic minimalism. The drawings represent six distinct, but successive sections of the flowerbed.
Shapes and shadows in the patterns are painted in a green reminiscent of iris leaves.

SQUARE INCISIONS
Branches and crowns of AESCULUS HIPPOCASTANUM, CERCIS SILIQUASTRUM, JUGLANS REGIA & PLATANUS X HISPANICA
Watercolor on 300g watercolor paper.
These silhouettes represent the branches or crowns of four different trees present on-situ. Each work consists of four drawings of different parts of the same tree. However, the viewer can still find a link and continuity between the different parts and views.

THREE AssemblIes
ACER NEGUNDO, CYDONIA OBLONGA & JUGLANS REGIA
Watercolor and Rotring marker on 300g watercolor paper.
The three diptychs are each composed of two assemblages. The first represents an imaginary tree, constructed from elements of several specimens of the same species, thus creating a singular and unique shape. The second consists of patterns found on the bark of the trees, contrasted with five squares of a color reminiscent of the one seen on the surface of the trunks and branches.
